Interestingly enough, you may talk to a lot of people that do not know what the commands of God are. In fact some of them think that the commands of God is whatever they make up in their head, or what another man tells them. Then some think the commands of God are outdated and do not apply to the modern day world. If the WILL of God is that you follow His commands, and you do not know what those commands are, then how will you live your life in accordance with the WILL of God?

The Commands of God

When God Himself came to earth and took a mans form, it is not like the people did not know the commands of God then. In fact that is what all the conversation was about when Jesus spoke to the religious leaders and others at that time. Furthermore,  we notice in Scripture that these religious leaders were twisting the commands around so that they no longer represented what God originally commanded. In addition, Jesus gave us new commandments in addition to what He gave Moses. So lets go over some of the commandments that He gave Moses

Commands to Moses

OK first lets go back to the basics. Think of it, there are 10 commandments that make up the basics of what we are to observe and practice. Here is a list of The Ten Commandments as given by God to Moses on Mount Sinai, found in Exodus 20:1–17 (KJV):

  1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

  2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything... thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.

  3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain; for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

  4. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

  5. Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

  6. Thou shalt not kill.

  7. Thou shalt not commit adultery.

  8. Thou shalt not steal.

  9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

  10. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, wife, servant, ox, ass, nor anything that is thy neighbour’s.

Measuring Up

So how are we measuring up? I think with just these 10 basic laws we can see that we fail miserably. In future posts we will go over more commands from the LORD that you may not be aware of.
