In our modern world, intelligence is often revered above all else. We admire those with sharp minds, quick wit, and vast knowledge. Society measures success by IQ, education, and problem-solving ability. But is there something even greater than intelligence?
The answer is love.
The Wisdom of God: Omniscience and Love
God is omniscient—He knows all things, past, present, and future. His intelligence is beyond human comprehension. Yet, the defining characteristic of God is not merely His knowledge but His love. The Bible tells us:
"God is love." (1 John 4:8)
This means that while God possesses infinite intelligence, His essence is not just about knowledge—it is about relationship, compassion, and self-sacrifice. Knowledge without love can be cold and detached, but love infused with wisdom transforms lives.
Intelligence Without Love is Empty
History has shown that intelligence without love can be dangerous. The most brilliant minds have created weapons of mass destruction, oppressive systems, and manipulative technologies. Knowledge alone does not guarantee goodness.
"If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge... but do not have love, I am nothing." (1 Corinthians 13:2)
True wisdom is found in love—love for God, love for others, and love that seeks to uplift rather than dominate.
God’s Love Surpasses Knowledge
Paul reminds us that love is beyond even our understanding:
"And to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God." (Ephesians 3:19)
This means that love is not something that can simply be measured, analyzed, or intellectualized. It is something we must experience and share.
Choosing Love Over Mere Intelligence
In a world obsessed with intellect, let us pursue the higher calling—to love as God loves. Intelligence is a gift, but love is the greatest of all. As Paul concludes in 1 Corinthians 13:13:
"And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."
God, in all His infinite wisdom, chose love as His defining trait. If God, who knows all things, places love above knowledge, shouldn’t we do the same?
